In
the event that you're anywhere near the geek (and proud) that we
are around here, we thought we'd give you a history of the modifications
to blinktag.org.

Added buttons to allow users to easily perform such functions as BOLD, Italics, Underline for the submission of blinktags and for the comments. Also sort of fixed the email function; it works again, just doesn't seem to have the ability to output the source as an image. Yet. Somewhere along the way I also fixed the output of comments so that it's more accurate in its display on the pages. |

Thanks to Shredder's efforts due to my dramatically increased employment status, we now have an RSS feed located nicely at http://www.blinktag.org/blinktagrss.cfm. Feel free to share that with your friends an all that good stuff. We would happily consider moving away from an RSS feed to something that's XML (or just doing both) if someone wants us to provide more information such as the number of comments, the source, the path to the imagery, etc. Let us know. We bend happily to your will. We are nothing without you. You rule our worlds and we wanted you to know that. |

Finding a lot of errors in the RSS feeds and don't feel comfortable taking them live until there's a way to trap errors or failures in those feeds to eliminate breaking every page on the site. Working on it. Fixed a bunch of font issues on the home page and on the comments page so that everything should be a bit cleaner, easier to read, easier to use and participate in. Got my first HateMail(tm) letting me know I'm anti-American and an under-achieving whiner. Bah, I'm no under-achiever. I like America, and one of my rights is to poke fun of it, just like it's one of your rights to poke fun of me. |

Mostly worked on adding RSS feeds for the registered users. If you edit your profile, you can choose from a variety of RSS feeds that we'll update as regularly as we can, and I think there's about 18 to start with. This is going to require some testing for a day or so more before we can take it live. Enhanced a couple of things on the moderator side to make our lives a little easier, too. |

Fixed minor issues in the all-text version of the home page. Added
the "First Comment" piece to blinktag submissions. This
is to facilitate conversations a bit easier, mix things up a bit,
etc. Found a couple of small bugs that are being fixed in regards
to the duplication of URLs into the database and the error that appeared
when a user was submitting duplicate URLs. Metsfan gave me some nifty
javascript to change the 'random blinker' to blank when you choose
your source from the dropdown so you don't get as many validation
popups. Added a the ability to place text ads on pages; hey, this
thing ain't free! |

Fixed some minor issues with the email blinktag functionality (again).
Added the "alt view" and the "text only" views
to allow you to choose whichever way works best for you--just don't
lose touch with the home page since we'll be making some modifications
there in the near future. |

Changed the homepage design--you knew it was coming. This puts
us in good shape for some of the other changes that are forthcoming
and will change the way the site operates a little bit. Still
need to modify the comments page and the email blinktag page so
that we are consistently represented throughout the site. The
biggest concern right now is that it's not obvious enough to find
the link for the original story and we may need to make the blinktag
Title a clickable link to help with the usability. Decided to go
ahead and make the titles clickable.
Also threw in a drop down in the top-right
on the home page that allows you to jump to the posts that have
been commented on most recently. SchwaMoney's all over that one.
Today's been a day of design-hell. Probably
will continue to be so. Don't be surprised if blinktag changes
a few times while visiting. So finicky. Mmmmmm....sleep.

Added the ability to email a blinktag to the enemy and/or friend
of your choice. Even made a couple of mods to the about page to ensure
there's not too much confusion. |
February
26, 2003
Added the "link" to each comment so you can obtain a unique
identifier to a specific comment, in case you want to show your mom
or something. Yet another metsfan idea. Also created this and the
about pages. Did a little more to the moderators section. |
February
25, 2003
Added the Sort By dropdown on the home page in the event that we
start getting T&A links you can then sort by them, get a page
full of ass and get on your way. Made the topic images do the same
type of sorting thing as the dropdown. Got the whole "allowing
HTML tags" thing working correctly. Implemented the dirty word
filter, complete with nonoxynol-9, for your protection. |
February
24, 2003
Made a bunch of changes to the moderators section to make our lives
easier; mostly at the demand request of metsfan.
Implemented the counting of the amounts of clicks on links. |
February
23, 2003
The first version of blinktag.org went live. Fixed about
2-3 bugs that were missed in testing. |
